About Palafoxiana Library
In 1646 it was founded with the donation of 5 thousand volumes by Bishop Juan de Palafox and Mendoza, so that anyone who could read it could consult it. Considered since then as the first public library in the Americas with the largest number of volumes: to date the collection amounts to 45,059 volumes, of the fifteenth, sixteenth, seventeenth, nineteenth, nineteenth and twentieth centuries, unique in its kind; also conserving the concept and structure of a New Spain library.
