Description Sanctuary of Jesús Nazareno de Atotonilco
The Sanctuary of Jesús Nazareno de Atotonilco, also known as the Sistine Chapel of America, is located 14 km from the city, was built by the Jesuits in the 18th century. Today is one of the best examples of Baroque art and architecture in the New Spain, consists of a large church and several small chapels, decorated with oil paintings by Rodriguez Juárez and mural paintings by Miguel Antonio Martínez de Pocasangre.
