About The Toniná Archaeological Site
The name comes from the Tzeltal and means "the stone house" and is made up of seven platforms that form an artificial mountain. It became an important military power and its most important ruler was Tzots Choj, "bat-tiger". Its outstanding buildings are the Palace of the Underworld, the Ball Game, the Temple of the Grecas and the Altar of Sacrifices.
